There are some spiritual beliefs and principles that, when taken too far, can be distorted to blame or shame victims of abuse or other forms of trauma, proving harmful and limiting to the healing journey. It’s important to shed light on spiritual frameworks that may hinder or impede a survivor’s journey to authentic healing and can perpetuate a larger victim-shaming discourse in society. Here are seven spiritual philosophies that can be misused to blame the victim and enable abuse.
Since 2013, Families Against Cult Teachings (F.A.C.T.) has been helping victims and families of cults, undue influence, group exploitation and abuse to heal and recover while exposing the guilty parties. Our mission is to support a more informed public where prevention is achieved through education and to see justice brought to light in cases of cultic abuse and trafficking.

New Investigation in the works...
The FACT Team is investigating allegations made against an international church for monetary exploitation of members, slave labor, fraud, and other abuses.
Numerous complaints received by our organization list in detail the high-control environment intended to isolate church members from family and friends and control their behavior. Members are also forced to live in subpar conditions and constantly eat very low calorie meals, even when working hard labor for 8-12 hours a day. One church member has already fainted as a result of malnourishment and needed to be hospitalized, while another has recently attempted suicide.
At this time we cannot divulge the name of this church but will provide updates as our investigation develops. Stay tuned...

FAITH-HEALING BILL ADVANCES TO IDAHO SENATE
Progress is being made in Idaho:
"Legislation that would tweak Idaho's laws allowing families to cite religious reasons for medical decisions without fear of being charged with neglect or abuse is headed to the Idaho Senate. The proposal would amend only Idaho's civil laws to make it easier for judges to get involved in faith-healing cases. The bill does not change the state's religious exemption regarding criminal charges, which is considered the most contentious part of the religious waiver."
"Focus on the exemption has exploded recently Idaho as more attention has been placed on the deaths of children among members of the Followers of Christ — based in southwestern Idaho — from treatable conditions, including pneumonia and food poisoning."
A step in the right direction.
