We received a complaint about the Avatar Course that claims the program is being run like a cult. According to the complaint, Avatar organizers pressure new members to signup for more self-help courses to progress through the program. Also, according to the complaint, emotional and psychological abuse is used on members.

"There is brainwashing from day one. As you get further in and become part of the group, various tactics of emotional and psychological abuse are used: gas-lighting, manipulation, control, reverse psychology... This actually becomes the essence of the teachings. It completely strips you of any sense of reality and identity and your sense of self is extremely compromised.

"You are not allowed to question anyone and Harry Palmer is considered God like! As you get even further into the group, people give up their lives completely for this organization. They miss holidays, time with loved ones, leave marriages and become bankrupt. It is not uncommon for people to get into debt of $30,000 upwards (some times even twice as much). Anyone who leaves is considered "psychotic" and shamed by the group. Shame is big within this group."

"Many who attend this course have had psychotic breakdowns, ended up depressed, anxious and even suicidal. However, they always pass it off as the persons responsibility and for some reason no one has been able to do anything about it."

When it comes to destructive cults, it's the children trapped inside these groups that are most at risk for abuse, especially sexual. They have no one to turn to for protection, not even their own parents in most cases.

"The first time that he put his hand up my shirt," Kate Tonnessen recalled, "I thought it was an inappropriate touch, and it was, uh, pretty devastating to me. He would sometimes, you know, show up at my house at 3 in the morning and just come in," Rose recalled. He'd tell me to go lock the door, and then he'd pull me onto the bed and kiss me and ask me to unhook my bra," Kate Tonnessen said.

The girls experienced acts of indecency at the hands of a man they were taught to believe was a god on earth.

Annual Board of Directors meeting

Yesterday we had our annual Board of Directors meeting with members flying in from all around the country to attend. It was a very productive meeting where we all worked successfully towards clarifying our goals and agenda for 2016, which focuses on bringing awareness / educating about destructive cults, rescuing our kids and reuniting families.
