YOGA GURU TO PAY SEXUAL ASSAULT VICTIMS $6.4 MILLION IN DAMAGES

Los Angeles jury on Tuesday awarded more than $6.4 million in the first of a series of lawsuits against renowned yoga guru Bikram Choudhury in which women accuse the founder of the popular Bikram yoga style of sexual misconduct.

The verdict marks a significant financial and legal blow to Choudhury, who claimed millions of followers in a global empire centered around “hot yoga,” performed in sweltering rooms.

The case involved a lawsuit by his onetime legal advisor, Minakshi Jafa-Bodden, who alleged that Choudhury sexually harassed her while she worked for him and that she was fired after she began investigating claims that he had raped a yoga student. Six other women in recent years have filed civil lawsuits accusing Choudhury of sexually assaulting them.

Choudhury has denied any wrongdoing, and Los Angeles County prosecutors decided not to file criminal charges in several cases, saying there was no corroborating evidence.

The Beverly Hills resident testified Tuesday that he has spent millions of dollars on legal bills in recent years and that his Los Angeles-based yoga business has waned, leaving him nearly bankrupt.

“I have to borrow money from my family and friends,” he told jurors. “I have no money.”

Under cross-examination, Choudhury admitted keeping a fleet of up to 40 luxury cars — including Bentleys, Ferraris and Rolls-Royces — in a Van Nuys garage. He said he gave the vehicles to the state to start a school, the “Bikram auto engineering school for children.” The remarks drew smirks and laughs from several jurors. A spokeswoman for the governor told The Times no such agreement exists.

Tuesday’s award of punitive damages came on top of more than $924,500 that jurors awarded Jafa-Bodden in compensatory damages Monday.

“I feel vindicated, I'm elated,” Jafa-Bodden said after the verdict, describing Choudhury as “a dangerous, dangerous predator.”

ISKCON AT THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA – LATEST NEWS

We are proud to announce, from our hard work and diligence over the last year and a half, that Carl Woodham (the Chaplain of the ISKCON Krishna House) no longer holds his position on the University of Florida's faculty as the ‘Secretary of the Board for the Campus Multi-Faith Cooperative’, as confirmed by Angelo Grasso, the chairman of that board. Moreover, Grasso states that Woodham has retired from the board completely.

Though not stated to us directly by the school, it seems as if the University of Florida has finally acknowledged the potential threat of ISKCON on its campus and we hope that Woodham’s recruitment efforts of students will be further investigated by the school and stopped entirely. In our opinion, the active recruitment of young impressionable students at any school is completely unethical and should be prohibited.

We at FACT will never stop trying to remove these organizations from campuses in an effort to safeguard all students from agendas that seek to recruit “young Westerners wholesale” (as Woodham once stated in an email to a fellow guru).

To everyone who helped us with our efforts, we cannot thank you enough.

We will keep you updated with any further developments

New Documentary Series Seeking Survivors of Scientology

A highly-respected A/V team, putting together a new documentary series, is seeking survivors of Scientology—or families containing current members—to tell their story to help educate and protect the general public. They may also provide help with reconnecting with loved ones still in the CoS, or provide other support as needed. Part of their objectives are to use their own resources to help restore communication between family members or friends, if possible—obviously no one can make finite promises re specific outcomes. If you would like to be considered for participation in this docu-series or utilizing such a platform to tell your story, please contact FACT as soon as possible.

Speak the Truth Even If Your Voice Shakes

As a follow up to our previous post regarding our upcoming exposes, we know that it is a common tactic by cultic organizations / self-proclaimed gurus to use legal retaliation in order to intimidate outspoken victims and their supporters into submission and silence.

Well, we at FACT will not be intimidated by threats. All of our work and exposes are founded on truth and the truth is always defendable. We would never publish an expose that is not substantiated by facts and evidence.

We will however republish information from online sources like social media, newspapers, magazines, etc., in addition to publishing facts from our own private investigations.

Our first expose will be next week on Guy Miller Ministries so stay tuned...
